Amid the war between Israel and Hamas, which is shaking the Middle East, Iran announced that it could close the Mediterranean Sea in response to the “crimes” it accuses the United States and its allies of committing in the Gaza Strip. The threat came hours after Washington accused Tehran of getting involved in planning operations against commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

Since October 7, the regime led by Ali Khamenei explicitly supported the terrorist group. However, as reported by Reuters, they did not enter the conflict because they were marginalized from the operation that bore the name “Al-Aqsa Flood.”

They will soon expect the closure of the Mediterranean Sea, (the Strait of) Gibraltar and other waterways,” they expressed from the local media Tasnim, attributing the quote to General Mohammad Reza Naqdi.

Nadqi also referred to the attacks suffered by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, a group backed by Iran. “Yesterday, the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz became a nightmare for them, and today they are trapped... in the Red Sea,” he added.

According to Iranian logic, the United States and its allies are helping Israel commit “crimes” in the Gaza Strip, which is why they threatened to close the Mediterranean Sea. However, it is unclear how they could carry out this threat since the country has no direct access to that sea or a significant naval presence outside the Persian Gulf.

Is Iran behind attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East?

Since the war between Israel and Hamas began after the October 7 terrorist attacks, American troops in the region have suffered more than 40 attacks, for example, with drones.

For Nathan Sales, a former official who held various positions during the Trump administration, as Counterterrorism Coordinator, Undersecretary of State for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, what is happening is quite evident.

Iran is behind everything that we’re seeing in terms of attacks directed on U.S. forces. We’re seeing Iranian proxies attack Americans in Syria and Iraq and now from Yemen. And they’re going to keep doing it until we make them stop,” he explained on Fox News Live.
