Former Maryland Governor's Chief of Staff Killed in Confrontation with FBI Agents

Roy McGrath had been wanted for three weeks on several counts of corruption in office.

The flight of former Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan's, former chief of staff, ended following a shootout with FBI agents. Roy McGrath was being pursued by federal agents for three weeks after he fled just prior to his trial for wire fraud, embezzlement, misconduct in office and misuse of state funds began last month.

As reported by The Baltimore Banner, McGrath died in a Tennessee hospital as a result of a gunshot wound. No information has been provided at this time as to whether it was a projectile from his own weapon or one that came from an officer's pistol.

After three weeks of intense searching, and with a reward of $10,000 - which increased to $20,000 after the flight was prolonged - for people who could provide relevant information on his whereabouts, federal agents were able to locate him in Knoxville.

According to Shayne Buchwald, FBI public affairs officer, several agents encountered McGrath at a commercial intersection around 6:30 p.m. and opened fire. "During the arrest, the subject, Roy McGrath, sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital," Buchwald noted.
