Tesla recalls 120,000 vehicles due to problems with their doors

Elon Musk's company acknowledged that these doors could open during a crash. The affected cars are the Models S and X manufactured between 2021 and 2023.

Tesla recalled a total of 120,000 vehicles on Thursday due to problems with their doors. As Elon Musk's company recognized in a letter posted Thursday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, Tesla Models S and X manufactured between 2021 and 2023 have a fault that causes the door to unlock and open, increasing the risk of injuries that car passengers may suffer during an accident:

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Model S and X vehicles. The cabin doors can be unlocked during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Despite the ruling, the company also provided a solution in the letter. All vehicles that are part of the affected models and that could have problems with their doors will have a free software update that will be automatically downloaded:

Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 17, 2024. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-23-00-009.

Tesla also registers problems with its AutoPilot system

The faulty doors are not the only problem that Tesla had in recent days. Musk's company recently recalled a total of 2 million vehicles in the United States. In the case of these cars, the failure was detected in the AutoPilot system, software that regulates the speed of the vehicle when it encounters potential obstacles.

However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned that the car does not successfully detect possible obstructions on the road and does not reliably stop when encountering certain obstacles in its path.
