Nine people were shot at a splash pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, around 5:00 p.m. local time by a shooter who is now “contained,” according to authorities.

The shooting occurred at the Brookland Plaza splash pad, 1585 E. Auburn Road, according to the Rochester Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard reported Saturday that the alleged shooter was surrounded in a house near the shooting, exactly half a mile from the site. He said negotiators and a SWAT team were outside the house, and they did not know whether the shooter had further access to additional weapons.

Upon entering the home with a drone, officers found the body of a 42-year-old white man, local media reported. The first hypothesis is that the alleged shooter shot himself as the authorities surrounded his home. The officers did not hear the shot, but they had managed to make contact with the suspect before entering the house.

According to the sheriff's social media account, the gunman drove to the water park, exited his vehicle and opened fire using a Glock 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun.

He then reloaded the weapon, fired it, and reloaded it again.

Bouchard later reported that investigators recovered the gun and three empty magazines, which suggests that as many as 28 shots were fired, although a complete official analysis has yet to be released.

Inside his home, police found two other weapons. Authorities suspect he may have been planning "a second chapter."

At the moment, no fatalities have been reported.

Likewise, Bouchard reported that among the injured were minors, including an eight-year-old boy, who is in critical condition, and a four-year-old boy.
