Steve Harwell, singer of the band Smash Mouth, died at his home at the age of 56 after his health condition worsened in recent days. The singer suffered from liver failure and was receiving palliative care.

"Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve will be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom. Rest in peace knowing you aimed for the stars, and magically hit your target. Rest easy," the band wrote on its X (Twitter) account.

Smash Mouth rose to fame in the '90s thanks to hits like "I'm A Believer," "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun."
