Actress and political activist Jane Fonda took advantage of the Cannes Film Festival to make some controversial statements about the destruction of the planet and to call for the “arrest and imprisonment” of white men because, according to her, they are the ones creating the “climate crisis.”

The two-time Oscar winner was being questioned by an audience member at the film event when she took the opportunity to give her controversial opinion on environmental degradation.

“We’ve got about seven, eight years to cut ourselves in half of what we use of fossil fuels. Unfortunately, the people that have the least responsibility for it are hit the hardest — Global South, people on islands, poor people of color,” said the 85-year-old actress.

Fonda continued with her statements highlighting that the issue she was talking about is “a tragedy” that must be stopped, and one of the proposals the actress gave was to “arrest and jail” the men behind all these problems.

However, the artist did not stop there. Fonda stated that the destruction of the planet and race have a direct relationship. “It’s good for us all to realize, there would be no climate crisis if there was no racism. There would be no climate crisis if there was no patriarchy, A mindset that sees things in a hierarchical way. White men are the things that matter and then everything else [is] at the bottom,” she commented.

This is not the first time the actress has . Earlier this year, Fonda used the promotion of one of her films to talk about it.

“Well, you know, you can take anything – sexism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, whatever, the war. And if you really get into it and study it and learn about it and the history of it and everything’s connected,” she asserted.

Elon Musk’s opinion

Following the controversial comments made by Fonda, a Twitter user shared the news with the comment that woke thinking “is mental illness disguised as virtue and compassion,” an opinion that Elon Musk agrees with, or so it seemed, with his response to the post with a “yes.”
