Twitter permanently suspends Kathy Griffin's account for impersonating Elon Musk

The new CEO of Twitter justified the suspension on the grounds that the comedian breached the social network's terms prohibiting the impersonation of others.

Kathy Griffin lost access to her Twitter account. It all started on Sunday, when the comedian impersonated the now owner of the social network, Elon Musk, by changing her profile picture to an image of the entrepreneur and her display name to "Elon Musk," even though her username remained as @kathygriffin, reports Dailywire.

According to Musk, the suspension is because the comedian breached the company's terms. "Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying 'parody' will be permanently suspended. Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning."

In the thread, the Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla owner also specified that users with the Twitter Blue verification will not be able to change their display name. "This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark," Musk said.

These measures, Musk confirmed, are being taken with a single goal in mind: to make Twitter a safe source of information. "Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That's our mission."

Musk mocks Kathy Griffin

Musk's responses to his critics on the social network are now commonplace. A few days ago, the tycoon replied to Alejandra Ocasio-Cortez when she complained about charging $8 a month for the blue check. He again took to his Twitter account regarding the case of Kathy Griffin:

In his thread, Musk claimed that Kathy Griffin's account was suspended for "impersonating a comedian" and that she could get it back by "paying" the $8 per month for Twitter Blue.
