South Fulton (Georgia) Mayor Khalid Kamau was recently arrested for breaking into a home. The politician told authorities that he intended to purchase the property at some point.

Authorities reported that the Cascade Palmetto Highway homeowner called the police saying that he saw an intruder.

According to the report, the owner was inside his truck when he saw someone approaching his residence. While waiting for the officers, the victim held the invader at gunpoint and told him not to move. During that time, Kamau allegedly shouted to the owner that he was the local mayor.

“Do you know who the f–k I am? I’m the mayor, and I’ll wait for my police to get here and see what happens then,” Kamau told him, the owner reported.

The mayor’s reasoning

Kamau admitted to police that he was trespassing but justified himself by saying that he was walking to a dog park when he saw the house and decided to approach it because it was his dream house, and he hoped to buy it at some point. Later, in an interview, the mayor changed his version, saying he thought the house was abandoned.

Accused of trespassing and burglary

Following the incident, Khalid Kamau was booked into the Fulton County Jail but was released Saturday night after posting $11,000 bail. Reports indicate that the mayor was charged with both trespassing and first-degree burglary.

“The city of South Fulton is committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the same fair and just treatment,” officials assured.
