DeSantis says sanctuary cities should take on illegal immigrants
The governor of Florida accused Biden and sanctuary cities like Sacramento of causing "chaos" at the southern border.
Ron DeSantis assured in a meeting with sheriffs in Arizona that "the border should be closed" to stop the arrival of illegal immigrants. Since this is not the case, "the sanctuary jurisdictions should be the ones that have to bear that," he said. In the midst of the controversy with California over immigrant flights chartered by Florida to Sacramento, Calif., the governor accused sanctuary cities of being "part of the reason we have this problem."
DeSantis defended immigrant flights to Sacramento
Although he declined to respond to insults from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who called him a "small, pathetic man," he did insist on his policy of sending illegal immigrants to so-called sanctuary jurisdictions, such as The Golden State. "I think the border should be closed. But if there is a policy to have an open border, then I think sanctuary jurisdictions should be the ones that have to bear that," he said forcefully.
"The president's dereliction of duty"
According to DeSantis, "the chaos we are witnessing at our southern border is a direct result of the president's dereliction of duty." Therefore, after praising Greg Abbott's work in Texas, the governor of The Sunshine State announced that "if Joe Biden won't do his duty to protect our people and our borders, Florida will step up."
The governor assured that "The border needs to just be shut down. We need to be telling people, 'You're not coming illegally, you're not doing a bogus asylum claim. You're not going to be able to cross the border.'" In the same vein, DeSantis claimed that "mass migration doesn't work" because "it imposes enormous burdens on communities." In response, the federal government should "hold Mexican cartels accountable. They are controlling our own border in our own country and getting away with murder killing Americans," he said.
