The recent publication of Joe Biden's budget plan for 2024 lent itself to an interesting analysis of the president's policy priorities, after the document focused more on gender issues than on the country's drug crisis.

The president mentioned several issues in his budget, "equity" being one of the most used words. According to a Fox News report, Biden used the word more than 60 times to refer to issues of race, health care and "fairness" for veterans.

However, "fentanyl" was only mentioned twice and "opioid" four times. This is despite the fact that the drug has become a major public health and safety issue in the country, causing the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

"On his first day in office, the President signed a sweeping Executive Order directing the entire Federal Government to advance an ambitious equity and racial justice agenda—not as a one-year project, but as part of a sustained commitment to make the promise of America real for every American," stated the document.

Biden even made more reference to words like "transgender" and "queer" than to the use of potentially deadly substances. The aforementioned media report notes that the president used the word "transgender" eight times in the document and "queer" seven times.

Biden's main objective: raising taxes

The president's budget revolved largely around the idea of raising taxes on the wealthy in order to fund Social Security, Medicare and welfare programs.

One of Biden's intentions is to raise the budget appropriations of all federal executive departments and to impose a minimum tax of 25% on all Americans with a net worth of more than $100 million.
