Mitch McConnell hospitalized after fall

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, was hospitalized after a fall during a private dinner at a Washington D.C. hotel. Spokesman for the senator, David Popp, told Fox News that McConnell was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

McConnell, 81, was first elected senator in 1984. He was Senate majority leader from 2015 to 2021 and has been Senate minority leader since then. His team has not released further details about his condition.

Update: The senator suffered a concussion

In a statement updating the senator's medical status, McConnell's communications chief announced that he will remain in the hospital for a few days after being found to be suffering from a concussion as a result of the fall:

Leader McConnell stumbled at a dinner party Wednesday night and has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated for a concussion. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and treatment," David Popp, McConnell's communications director, said in an update on Thursday.
