This Thursday, the House Ethics Committee announced that it will begin investigating New York Congressman George Santos for suspected involvement in illegal activities and ethics violations.

In a press release, the panel informed that it had already voted a few days ago to establish an investigative subcommittee, and that after unanimous approval it was decided to begin the review of Santos' case.

The investigation will focus on determining whether the congressman violated federal conflict of interest laws related to his work for a financial firm, whether he engaged in illegal activities during his 2022 campaign for Congress, whether he failed to adequately disclose information required by the House, and whether he engaged in sexual misconduct toward a person who was seeking employment in his congressional office.

"The Committee notes that the mere fact of establishing an Investigative Subcommittee does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred," the statement clarified. Following the announcement, George Santos' office assured through his Twitter account that the congressman is "cooperating fully".

The legislator recently assured that he was not concerned about a House ethics investigation. However, the outlook is far from positive for him due to all the controversies he has been involved in since he took office in January and a series of reports were published revealing all the lies he made during his election campaign.

Even a group of R to resign for having "irreparably broken the trust" of the voters. However, Santos has been firm in his stance to continue in office, as he assures that he remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises.

"I was elected to serve the people of #NY03 not the party & politicians, I remain committed to doing that and regret to hear that local officials refuse to work with my office to deliver results to keep our community safe and lower the cost of living,"he expressed in January.
