Are you a Facebook user? Zuckerberg's company could pay you up to $345

The famous social network has reached an agreement to compensate its earliest US users with 725 million dollars for breaching its privacy policy.

Have you had a Facebook profile for sixteen years? If so, you may be eligible for a payment of up to $345. The social network, reports The Washington Post will have to pay compensation to users who have used the social network in the United States for the last sixteen years.

The fine is part of the $725 million settlement that this social network, owned by Meta, has to pay its users for breaching its privacy policy by sharing their data without prior consent.

The lawsuit against Facebook was for violating the privacy policy

Representatives of the user group that sued the company claimed that Facebook allowed third parties to access its users' content and information and that it did not control the use of the data by those third parties, according to AP. For that reason, Meta will have to pay up to $345 to the 1.6 billion users whose privacy was violated. The company, for its part, denied the accusations made in the lawsuit, but, in order to avoid going to trial, accepted a settlement last December, to avoid both the high cost of the process and the risks associated with keeping the case open.

One of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs, Keller Rohrback said to the Washington Post: "It is the largest settlement ever of a privacy class action in the United States." For its part, Meta stated that the agreement was "in the best interest of our community and shareholders" and that it has renewed its privacy policy.

What do you have to do to benefit from the payment? Karina Yapor, editor of Voz Media interviewed Juan Guevara, an expert in networks, who invited people to attend the following link and advised that, to avoid fraud, potential beneficiaries should ask for the money to be sent via PayPal, Zelle or Venmo. What he did not recommend, under any circumstances, was to request a refund by direct deposit or bank card.
