Agatha Christie books rewritten to suit "modern sensibilities"

The adventures of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple have to pass the sieve of progressive thinking.

Political correctness, modern sensibilities, woke politics. Pressure from the entire gamut of left-wing politicians (progressives, socialists, communists) and related media knows no limits. They want to rewrite the past, control the present and dominate the future. This left, which believes itself morally superior to conservative or center-right ideology, has achieved a new goal: influencing  Harper Collins publishing to rewrite all of Agatha Christie's books and make them more acceptable to modern sensibilities. After achieving their goals with the works of Roald Dahl (Charlie and the chocolate factory) and Ian Fleming (adventures of James Bond), now it is the turn of the another popular British writer, as revealed this Sunday in the Sunday Telegraph, now, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple will also be rewritten for the new times.

Entire passages from Christie have been removed or will be rewritten in the new editions being prepared or that have been published since 2020. A committee of "sensitive readers" reviewed them to ensure that "ethnic slurs or references" were removed, as well as physical descriptions of some characters.

The newspaper cites several examples as suppressed comments about the physical appearance of non-British characters appearing in the books. Marple and Poirot's monologues have been cut and references to a character's repulsion for children have been modified. The racial term 'oriental' and the racial allusion of a black servant have been removed. The Agatha Christie Limited company, headed by the author's great-grandson James Prichard, manages the rights to her works for literature and film.
