2-0: Portugal storms Uruguayan fortress to advance to round of 16

Bruno Fernandes' double complicates things for Uruguay.

The Portugal national team, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, finished the game with a hard-fought victory against Uruguay which failed to cause their opponents serious trouble on the field. Midfielder Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, although it was initially credited to CR7, who looked rather disgruntled when his teammate finally scored the goal.

Fernandes put the nail in the coffin for the Uruguayan team in stoppage time, in the 92nd minute.

With this result, Portugal secured their place in the next round, while Uruguay will play Ghana in their next match to qualify.

It is worth noting that at one point during the game, a fan who was wearing a t-shirt which read “Respect for Iranian Women” and carrying the rainbow flag for the LGBTQ movement, which is severely repressed in Qatar, ran onto the field.
