The day Trump hit the red button
JD Vance recounts at a GOP dinner in Ohio that the president played a joke on him during last weekend's negotiations by flipping the switch after saying things weren't looking good.

JD Vance was witnessing the start of a U.S. nuclear strike in the Middle East. At least, during the minutes that passed from the time Donald Trump pressed the red button in his office during the negotiations until an assistant with a Diet Coke appeared. This was told with laughter by the vice president himself during a Republican Party dinner in Ohio held last Tuesday.
“The president looks over at me, puts the foreign leader on mute and says, ‘This is not going very well.’ And he presses the red button.”
“My eyes get really big, And I'm like, ‘Mr. President, you know what just happened?’ And he looks at me and he goes: ‘Nuclear. Nuclear.’”
“And two minutes later, a guy walks in with a Diet Coke. And he looks back at me and he says, it wasn't nuclear. It's just the Diet Coke button.”
