A judge has sentenced Michael DiMassa, a former Connecticut Democratic congressman, to 27 months in prison for stealing more than $1.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds intended for the coastal city of West Haven, Conn.
According to the local newspaper New Haven Register, DiMassa must also pay a fine of $865,844.45.
DiMassa and his wife Lauren pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud conspiracy in November 2022. Until sentencing, DiMassa was free on $250,000 bail.
