Biden on the verge of announcing his 2024 candidacy
According to several sources close to the president, he will make his announcement next Tuesday.
Next Tuesday Joe Biden could announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. This is the information published by several media outlets and agencies, citing sources close to the president and his family. The New York Times claims to have at least four different sources confirming this date.
During his trip to Ireland, Biden already assured that he would announce his candidacy soon, without saying much more about it. According to sources cited by NYT, Biden will make his announcement via a discreet video. Next week marks four years since Joe Biden launched his 2020 presidential campaign.
Concern among Democratic voters
Joe Biden's age is something that worries voters. A University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll claims that half of Democratic voters prefer that the current president not run again in the next election. In 2021, Biden became the oldest president to be sworn in and at the end of a hypothetical second term he would be 86 years old. The same poll gave Biden his worst moment in January 2023, when 67% of Democratic voters did not want him to run.
Among Democrats, some names are gaining relevance. According to UNH, Democratic voters look favorably on profiles such as Michelle Obama; Pete Buttigieg, especially prior to the East Palestine disaster; Elizabeth Warren; Bernie Sanders or Stacey Abrams. They are not, however, expected to make a real opposition to Biden in the primaries, or even for all of them to run for office.
