María Corina Machado calls for a massive, family-oriented mobilization to commemorate the primaries and demand democratic guarantees
Three years before the primaries, the opposition leader reframed the discourse around resignation as a call for civil resistance, demanding the restoration of democratic order and the conditions for the diaspora's return.

On Monday, María Corina Machado called for a new national and international day of citizen mobilization on Thursday, October 22.
The event coincides with the third anniversary of the opposition primary election. This historic process redefined democratic leadership in the country and laid the groundwork for the electoral victory that opposition records attribute to Edmundo González Urrutia in the July 28, 2024, elections.
In a message shared through her official channels, the political leader called for rejecting the narrative of discouragement that seeks to normalize the regime's continued hold on power, appealing to the dignity of citizens both within and outside the country.
"We Venezuelans know what it has cost us to get this far, what we have lost, what we have learned, but above all what we are determined to do to see this through to the end, to have a free Venezuela to which our children can return and live with dignity," Machado emphasized.
Transforming resignation into a force of civil resistance
Machado recounted the institutional and political obstacles that civil society has overcome in recent years, recalling how citizen organizations dismantled initial skepticism during past elections.
"Look where we are now. But think of all the times they told us, 'This is the way it is; just deal with it.' Could we have held the primaries? Would we have achieved victory on July 28? Would Maduro be facing justice? Would we be back out on the streets today?" the leader reflected.
"That's why, when they tell you, 'This is how it is,' yes, this is how it is: a people determined to be free and who are coming back to say so before the world this Thursday, October 22, three years after the primary," she asserted.
A family-wide call to action and demands on the international stage
The event scheduled for this Thursday aims to mobilize entire families in Venezuela's major cities and in urban centers abroad that host the diaspora. Machado urged attendees to come with the national flag held high to send a direct message to international organizations about the vitality of the civic movement.
"And we do this with pride and conviction in what we have done, but confident in what we are going to do. Go with your children, bring your family, carry your flag with your head held high, convinced that this depends on each and every one of us, because Venezuela will be free—let the whole world see it. This is the reality," she concluded.
The call to action comes amid renewed political anticipation, in which democratic forces continue to demand a transparent electoral timeline and presidential elections by 2027.
Leaders of Vente Venezuela stated on Monday, October 19, that the protest will also serve to demand the necessary guarantees for Machado's return to the country, after her team denounced obstacles imposed by the regime that have prevented her from returning to Venezuelan soil.
