Jon Rahm triumphs in LIV Golf
The Spanish golfer took the championship title in his first season on the Saudi circuit after winning the tournament in Chicago.
Spanish golfer Jon Rahm was proclaimed champion of the LIV Golf in his first season on the Saudi circuit after beating Chile's Joaquin Niemann in the Chicago tournament played at Rich Harvest Farms.
"I was nervous on this last day. I'm happy to have played so well, to not make any bogey in the whole tournament, it's pretty spectacular," Rahm said just after being proclaimed champion of the Saudi circuit.
As a prize for being champion, the Saudi circuit paid him $18 million, plus another $4 million for winning in Illinois.
Rahm triumphed in the Chicago tournament with a cumulative 11 strokes under par and a three-stroke lead over Niemann and fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia. He reached a total of 235.17 points in the overall LIV Golf standings.
The Spanish golfer landed on the Saudi circuit in December 2023 after signing a contract worth $500 million a year, joining other professionals such as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka. His arrival at LIV Golf was controversial, so much so that the PGA Tour decided to temporarily suspend him for his departure from the U.S. championship.
