The new press secretary replaces Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down on August 27 after serving as press secretary since January 2025.
In an official statement, the White House highlighted Leavitt's tenure, noting that she became the youngest press secretary in U.S. history.
The transition comes three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, when Republicans will seek to maintain their majority in Congress.
With his first press briefing scheduled for Tuesday, Zacharia will take on the responsibility of publicly representing the Trump administration's positions and answering questions from the media.
