Walmart announced that it will expand its drone delivery service to the Seattle and Denver metropolitan areas in 2027, as part of its strategy to accelerate home deliveries and extend this technology to nearly 20 U.S. markets.

According to an Infobae report, the expansion will take place in collaboration with Wing, a company owned by Alphabet, Google's parent company. Currently, the service is available to more than three million customers in cities such as Dallas; Atlanta; Houston; Orlando, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C.

The drones can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour and carry packages weighing up to 5 pounds, primarily food, over-the-counter medication and small electronic items. Orders can be placed through the Walmart and Wing apps, with deliveries arriving in a matter of minutes.

The company plans to expand this service to more than 270 stores and potentially reach more than 40 million consumers. Cities slated for future expansion include Los Angeles; San Francisco; Cincinnati, Ohio; New Orleans and Tampa, Fla.

The initiative comes amid growing competition to automate deliveries across the country, with companies like Amazon also developing their own drone delivery networks.

According to Wing, an exact date has not yet been set for the start of operations in Seattle and Denver.
