Businessman and political activist Mike Lindell, better known as the "MyPillow Guy," officially announced Tuesday his candidacy for chairmanship of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

Lindell had expressed his intention to run a few weeks ago. He made the official announcement in an email, highlighting what he feels is a need to re-establish leadership in the GOP.

"The RNC's leadership's strategy of 'business as usual' has been a disaster not only for the Party but even more importantly it has been disaster for the Country," he said, asserting that the party has recently suffered major losses in credibility.

The businessman was very confident and enthusiastic. He not only assured that he will win but also promised to make rapid changes to straighten out the country.

"The People of our Country are begging us to lead," he said, recalling that the party has had three failed election cycles under current Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

Lindell joins conservative attorney Harmeet Dhillon as a candidate hoping to oust the incumbent McDaniel, who has been losing party support in both Arizona and Texas.

However, a spokesman for McDaniel's re-election campaign of the still RNC chairwoman said that already 100 of the 168 voting members pledged to support her, which would be more than enough to win the election.

In fact, Lee Zeldin, a Republican representative from New York who also considered running for office, recently hinted that McDaniel will be re-anointed as chairwoman.

"The issue is Chairwoman McDaniel’s re-election appears to already be pre-baked, as if the disappointing results of every election during her tenure … do not and should not even matter," he said.
