The former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera died this Tuesday after his helicopter crashed near Lago Ranco. Heavy rains may have been the main cause of the incident.
According to information, the former Chilean president was piloting the helicopter and traveling with three other companions, who managed to survive the accident. He recently renewed his helicopter pilot’s license.
Piñera, 74 years old, was president of the Republic of Chile from 2010 to 2014 and from 2018 to 2022. He preceded the country's current president, Gabriel Boric.
