Israeli diplomat stabbed in China and teacher killed in France while shouting "Allah is great"

The attacks coincide with former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal's call for a "Day of Jihad" against Israel around the world.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry reported Friday that an Israeli diplomat from its embassy in China was attacked. The diplomat, according to authorities, is in the hospital and in stable condition.

Police announced they are investigating the case. "An Israeli employee at the Israeli embassy in Beijing has been attacked (not in the embassy area). The employee is being treated at a hospital and remains in stable condition. The motive for the assault is being looked into," the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement reported by ABC.

Meanwhile, in France it was also reported that a teacher was killed and two other people were injured in a knife attack, according to Le Monde. The incident occurred on the premises of the Gambetta-Carnot high school in Arras (Pas de Calais). French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that a man was detained at the scene and that the attack was being investigated, but did not give details of what happened.

According to local media outlets, such as AFP, the man shouted "Allahu akbar [Allah is greatest]" as he cut the teacher’s throat. Journalists published videos of the other attacks that the subject committed.

"A police operation was carried out at the Gambetta institute in Arras. The perpetrator was arrested by the police," the minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Attacks coincide with the call for a ‘Global Day of Jihad’

The attacks coincide with Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal’s call for protests throughout the Muslim world this Friday in support of the Palestinians and for the people of neighboring countries to join the fight against Israel.

This caused alarm throughout the world from the moment of the announcement due to the risk of terrorist threats. In the U.S., the warnings are similar. For example, in cities like New York, Mayor Eric Adams announced that, although there are no "credible or specific threats" so far, the presence of law enforcement on the streets has been reinforced, especially in places of worship, schools and Jewish neighborhoods:

We have directed the NYPD to surge additional resources to schools and houses of worship to ensure that they are safe and that our city remains a place of peace.

Similarly, in Washington, D.C., the Capitol Police announced that it was "improving security" in order to keep all citizens safe.

The FBI announced that it is also taking measures to guarantee the safety of Americans. "As always, we take seriously any tips or leads we receive regarding potential threats and investigate them rigorously to determine their credibility. … The FBI encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement," stressed. the agency.
