The Russian Army claimed the seizure of a village in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, the first time it has announced an advance by its troops in this area of east-central Ukraine since the war began in February 2022.

"The locality of Dachne in the Dnipropetrovsk region was liberated," the Russian Army announced in a statement.

The Ukrainian Army claimed earlier on Monday that its troops managed to repel a Russian offensive in a sector bordering this locality.

The entry of Russian forces into this Ukrainian region would be a symbolic setback for Ukrainian forces, which are fighting with difficulties due to lack of troops and armaments. In addition, a Russian breakthrough may have strategic value in the face of negotiations to resolve the conflict.

Russia continues to demand that Ukraine cede four regions to it, in addition to Crimea annexed in 2014, and that it renounce joining NATO, conditions unacceptable to Kiev, which demands the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory.
