Franco Harris, a member of the National Football League Hall of Fame, passed away suddenly at the age of 72 in his sleep. His death came just days before the team planned to retire number 32 in his honor commemorating the 50th anniversary of his most memorable play, "The Immaculate Reception."

Harris' son reported that the NFL legend had passed away during the night, although the cause of death has not been made public.

Winner of four Super Bowls

Harris, who was a running back, was one of the Steelers' biggest stars of the 1970s, winning four Super Bowls and an idol to sports fans.

Harris was friendly and well liked both on and off the field. In addition to his impressive statistics throughout his career, he will be remembered for his impossible, miraculous play in the December 1972 AFC playoffs against the Oakland Raiders.
