DHS searches the home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar amid an immigration investigation
The Department of Justice confirmed that the operation was carried out under a search warrant. The investigation is reportedly related to possible irregularities in the immigration documents of the Somali-born lawmaker.

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar
Federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) searched the home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in Washington, D.C., on Monday, October 12, as part of a criminal investigation related, according to press reports, to alleged irregularities in her immigration documents.
The operation was carried out in the early morning hours by agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a division of DHS, according to the New York Post, citing sources familiar with the case.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice confirmed that authorities executed a court-authorized search warrant in the Washington, D.C., area, though they did not provide details on the possible violations under investigation.
"This action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," the Department of Justice stated in statements reported by the Associated Press.
Immigration documents filed during her childhood are under investigation
According to the New York newspaper, the investigation is reportedly focused on immigration documents submitted by Omar's late father when she was a minor.
The congresswoman was born in Somalia and arrived in the United States as a child. She obtained U.S. citizenship in 2000 and was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018.
Authorities have not made public the documents under investigation nor have they announced any formal charges against the lawmaker. Nor has it been officially confirmed what alleged irregularities investigators are seeking to clarify.
The investigation had been mentioned by Tom Homan
The search comes weeks after Tom Homan, the Trump administration's border policy chief, publicly acknowledged the existence of a criminal investigation involving Omar.
During an interview with Fox News in September, Homan stated that the Department of Homeland Security was examining the case, though he declined to disclose details.
The congresswoman has previously rejected allegations of alleged immigration fraud and has called the claims made against her baseless.
Who is Ilhan Omar?
She is part of the group of female lawmakers known as The Squad, composed of representatives who have taken a critical stance toward immigration policies and other decisions by the Trump administration.
In September, Omar introduced a legislative proposal to redirect funds allocated to federal immigration agencies to the communities affected by their operations, as reported on her official congressional website.
As of now, the congresswoman's office has not issued a public statement regarding the raid.
