Rapper Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet
The incident occurred during a party hosted by Kylie Jenner on July 12, 2020. There, the two singers argued and the artist pulled out a gun, which he fired up to five times.
Rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, for shooting artist Megan Thee Stallion in the feet. The incident happened on July 12, 2020 as both artists were leaving a party hosted by Kylie Jenner of the Kardashian clan on July 12, 2020 in the Hollywood Hills.
This assault, claims the prosecutor's office in charge of the case, depicts how Megan was the victim of a series of "repeated and grotesque attacks" that culminated when the Los Angeles judge found Lanez guilty of the crime. A sentence with which Tory Lanez's defense does not agree, and he stated that he will continue to fight for his client. According to the artist's lawyer, José Báez, they intend to appeal the magistrate's decision as they consider it to be "extreme":
The artist is charged with three felony counts: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm.
This is not the first time the rapper has faced trial in this case. In December of last year, NBC reports, he was also found guilty. On that occasion, a popular jury considered that the artist should assume his responsibility. However, Tory Lanez managed to delay his sentencing by changing his attorneys and filing a motion for a retrial.
Lanez admits guilt
The defendant apologized for his actions minutes before the judge informed him of his sentence. Dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, Lanez finally admitted his responsibility for what happened in July 2020: "If I could change it, I would, but I can’t. Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility. I truly am just trying to be a better person," he said.
The repentance shown by the rapper did not help much. Judge David Herriford finally sentenced Tory Lanez to ten years in prison. This is a sentence that, as he said in statements reported by ABC, imposed after not being able to recognize the person describing his surroundings with the same person who shot Megan five times: "Sometimes good people do bad things. Actions have consequences, and there are no winners in this case," he stated.
