South Korea has pulled off a surprise and qualified for the round of 16 at the Qatar World Cup after beating Portugal 2-1. The Portuguese team started the match guaranteed to advance.

Ricardo Horta (0-1) gave Portugal the lead in the fifth minute after finishing off a solid pass from right back Diogo Dalot. The South Koreans quickly equalized with a goal from center-back Young-Gwon (1-1), who took advantage of a defensive lapse by Portugal.

The South Korean team sealed their spot in the round of 16 in stoppage time. Hee-Chan Hwang (2-1) scored a goal after a strong counter attack and a great pass from star player Heung-Min Son.

Uruguay eliminated

Uruguay was eliminated from the Qatar World Cup despite its 2-0 win over Ghana. Midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta's two goals were not enough to put his team through after South Korea's comeback against Portugal.

The first half was clearly dominated by Uruguay. The first goal came in the 26th minute. De Arrascaeta (1-0) took advantage of a deflection from the goalkeeper to send the ball into the back of the net.

Five minutes later, de Arrascaeta (2-0) extended the lead with a stunning goal. The Uruguayan midfielder volleyed home a lofted ball for a superb goal to close out the scoring.

With these results, Group H concludes as follows: Portugal (6 points), South Korea (4), Uruguay (4) and Ghana (3).
