Every 13 minutes at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha Spanish fans could be heard chanting "goal." Spain ended the game with a crushing 7-0 victory over Costa Rica in the first World Cup game between two Spanish-speaking teams. La Roja silenced their critics who say that their team doesn't score goals.

In its debut in this year's World Cup in Qatar, the Spanish national team did not disappoint. With their characteristic playfulness, the players went out with impetuosity, as if their lives depended on the game, in this first step to try to place their second World Cup star on their shield. Costa Rica had no room for maneuver, they barely approached the opponent's area and had no scoring chances. Keylor Navas could do nothing against the Spanish effectiveness.

In the 11th minute, Dani Olmo scored the first goal. And from then on, the goals came pouring in. Marco Asensio, Ferrán Torres -with two goals- and Gavi continued the streak.

As the game drew to a close, Spain wanted more. Carlos Soler added to the score in minute 90. In added time, Álvaro Morata sealed Spain's victory.

Speaking to Televisión Española, Spanish manager Luis Enrique was fascinated with his team's performance:

When things work out like this, soccer becomes a wonderful sport. We handled the ball exceptionally and ended with the same mentality that has been with the national team for months or even years.

With this victory, Spain now ranks first in Group E. Their next game will be against Germany on Sunday.
