Accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, the president boarded Air Force One to meet with first responders, families and local officials a week after torrential flooding left at least 120 dead.

The president and first lady will visit Kerrville, a town in Kerr County which was hit hardest, where at least 96 people have been reported dead.

"We're going to be there with some of the families" of the victims, Trump told reporters before leaving the White House. He called what happened in the state "a horrible thing."

Rescue efforts

The search for more than 170 missing people, including five girls who were at a summer camp, entered its eighth day. Rescue crews are combing through debris and mud.
