The brief nomination of Tom Emmer for speaker of the Republicans in the House of Representatives failed miserably hours after he won a closed-door vote on Tuesday morning over six other candidates for the position vacated by Kevin McCarthy.

After winning the secret ballot, about 25 Republicans said they would not support Emmer in a vote on the House floor.

"This morning, the Republican Conference met to elect a Speaker. I supported Kevin Hern until he was eliminated from the ballot, at which time I supported Mike Johnson," Rep. Matt Rosendale, one of the many Republicans who opposed the majority speaker.

"Tom Emmer has secured the nomination but no longer has a path to secure 217 votes. It's time to get back in the room and give Kevin Hern and Mike Johnson an opportunity to get to 217!"

Representative for Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene, also expressed her discontent with Emmer's failed nomination.

"Today I voted against Tom Emmer on all rounds of voting including the spoken roll call vote because he has a voting record I can't support. He voted for Democrat gay marriage bill, voted with Democrats to overturn President Trump's transgender military ban, voted for every penny of Ukraine funding, at one time supported the Soros national popular vote scheme, and voted to certify Biden's 2020 election," Taylor Greene wrote.

In addition to several representatives, former President Donald Trump strongly criticized Emmer's nomination in Truth Social.

"I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! He fought me all the way, and actually spent more time defending Ilhan Omar, than he did me— He is totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters," the former president wrote.

"I believe he has now learned his lesson, because he is saying that he is Pro-Trump all the way, but who can ever be sure? Has he only changed because that's what it takes to win? The Republican Party cannot take that chance, because that's not where the America First Voters are. Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!" he added.

After the failed candidacies of the majority leader, Steve Scalise, and the president of the Judiciary, Jim Jordan, Emmer became the third Republican candidate to be rejected for speaker in just three weeks.

The inability to elect a speaker of the House of Representatives has revealed the deep internal crisis that the Republican Party has between conservatives and moderates.

Due to the slim majority that the Republicans have in the House, the speaker candidate cannot afford to lose more than four votes from the members of their party, considering that Democrats will vote against the GOP candidate.

Now, the Republican Party must, once again, try to agree to elect a new nominee to be the speaker of the House of Representatives.
