DC Studios has its new Supergirl. Actress Milly Alcock, known for playing a young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of "House of the Dragon" (HBO Max), achieved the coveted role after months of auditions, as confirmed by both James Gunn and the actress through various posts on social media:

The Australian actress prevailed over performers Emilia Jones ("Coda") and Meg Donnelly ("The Winchesters"). The latter also had experience as Supergirl, since she was the voice actress for the superheroine in "Legion of Superheroes" and "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths," two of the company's animated series.

'Woman of Tomorrow,' starring Milly Alcock

Milly Alcock will debut in the DCU soon, appearing in a project that many claim could be the film starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, "Superman: Legacy." After this, Alcock will star in "Woman of Tomorrow," where she will step into the shoes of Kara Zor-El. The film could begin filming next October.

Without a director yet to be chosen, the film will feature Ana Nogueira as its main writer. It will be part of the new DCU that aims to resurrect DC Studios after the notorious failure of "The Flash," where actress Sasha Calle played the role of Supergirl.

This Supergirl, however, will not look like the previous DCU version, rather it will be inspired by the character who starred in the "Woman of Tomorrow" comics. These were James Gunn’s words while reporting on the development of this new feature film along with nine others that will kickstart the revitalized DC Studios cinematic universe:

In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.
