Este sábado se entregaron los premios más democráticos de la industria del entretenimiento. La 49ª edición de los People's Choice Award culminaron con un reparto de galardones que le llovieron a Barbie en las categorías fílmicas. De las nueve nominaciones con las que contaba la película, logró ganar seis.

El actor canadiense Simu Liu fue el encargado de dirigir la gala de premios en los que el público vota de forma directa a quienes merecen los galardones. Liu estaba a su vez nominado por su actuación en el film estrella de Greta Gerwig y Margot Robie. La ceremonia se emitió de forma simultánea por Peacock y E!, socios productores de la velada, además de en NBC.

Además de la victoria casi absoluta de Barbie en las categorías fílmicas, Adam Sandler destacó por llevarse el Icon Award, uno de los premios más especiales que recibió de manos de Jennifer Aniston.

En las categorías de televisión, Anatomía de Grey se llevó el premio a la mejor serie del año. Junto a ella, Only Murders in the Building fue condecorada como la mejor comedia y The Last of Us como el mejor drama y su actor protagonista, Pedro Pascal, se llevó a casa el premio de la estrella masculina de televisión.
