Denmark summoned the U.S. chargé d'affaires Wednesday following a Danish press report on an alleged attempt to interfere in Greenland.
"Any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom [of Denmark] will of course be unacceptable" Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said in a statement sent to AFP.
Danish public television reported on Wednesday that at least three U.S. officials close to Trump were recently observed in Greenland, attempting to gather information on issues that have generated tension between the island and Denmark.
"Aware that foreign actors continue to show an interest in Greenland and its position in the Kingdom of Denmark," Minister Rasmussen said.
"It is therefore not surprising if we experience outside attempts to influence the future of the Kingdom in the time ahead," he added.
