Valeria Marquez, young influencer
A young Mexican influencer with more than 95,000 followers on TikTok was murdered Tuesday in the state of Jalisco, the Attorney General's Office said.
The victim has been identified as Valeria Marquez, 23, who was broadcasting videos with content related to beauty and lifestyles, some of them with almost 800,000 views, AFP found.
"The victim is a person with active presence and influence on social networks," the state prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The event took place around 6:30 p.m. ET at a beauty salon that the influencer owned, located in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara, the Jalisco state capital.
"According to the initial lines of investigation, she was in her establishment when a man entered the premises and apparently fired a weapon at her, taking her life," the Prosecutor’s Office said, as reported by AFP.
Municipal police officers went to the premises after receiving a citizen report to the emergency line and confirmed the death of the young woman, the authority detailed.
Agents of the public prosecutor's office remain at the crime scene gathering testimony and evidence to clarify the case, which is being investigated "according to the femicide protocol," the Prosecutor's Office said.
