The eclipse was visible in the United States, Mexico, Central America and part of South America. The total phase began on March 14 at 2:26 EDT, peaked at 2:59 EDT and concluded at 3:31 EDT, according to NASA data.

What happens to the moon in an eclipse?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon align perfectly, causing our planet to cast its shadow on the Moon. In this phenomenon, the satellite passes through the darkest region of the Earth's shadow, giving it a characteristic reddish color.

The event was one of the last total lunar eclipses visible in the region for several years. The last time a similar phenomenon occurred was in 2022, and the next one will not be repeated until 2028.

Why is it called a Worm Moon?

The term Worm Moon comes from the traditional designations that various Native American tribes assigned to the March Full Moon. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, these communities named full moons after natural events associated with each month.
