His press team confirmed that he was taken to the general prosecutor's office for questioning.
"Today, Călin Georgescu was supposed to submit his candidacy for the new Presidency. (...) Where is democracy now? Where is democracy now, where are the partners who should defend democracy?" his communications team posted on his X account.

Elon Musk also spoke out about the situation. He said that "They just arrested the person who won the most votes in the Romanian presidential election. This is messed up," he added.
