Several people were injured in a knife attack Saturday at the Lyon Train Station in Paris. A suspect was arrested, according to French police, who were unable to clarify the motive for the attack.

The events occurred at the Gare de Lyon station around 8 a.m. According to a provisional police report, one person was seriously injured, though the individual is now in stable condition, and two were less severely injured.

A police source indicated that the suspect gave officers "an Italian driver’s license," adding that he apparently did not shout when committing his attack, according to AFP.

Initial reports indicate that it was a Malian man who was first subdued by bystanders before French railway police officers intervened. The Prosecutor's Office reported that the attacker used a hammer and a knife, and that the weapons are being analyzed.

“Police and emergency services are currently working in pavilions 1 and 3, making them temporarily inaccessible,” the French railway operator said on X. "Traffic is being slowed between Paris Gare de Lyon and Montargis and between Paris Gare de Lyon and Montereau," it also announced, calling the attack as "a malicious act."
