The Palace of Versailles reported that its visitors were evacuated Friday for safety reasons. It was the fifth time since Saturday that the site has received an alert. Authorities have also evacuated at least 15 airports.

"For security reasons, the Palace of Versailles is evacuating visitors and will reopen as soon as the controls have been carried out. We appreciate your understanding," the palace said on X (formerly Twitter).

Since Wednesday, several airports in the country have been evacuated. Among them are those in Lille, Nantes, Nice, Toulouse and 11 others, according to the BBC.

The alert in France began last Friday after the murder of a teacher in a knife attack, as reported by Le Monde. The incident occurred on the premises of the Gambetta-Carnot institute in Arras, Pas de Calais. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that a man was detained at the scene.
