The versatile Venezuelan infielder Miguel Rojas officially announced his retirement from professional baseball as an active player at age 37. The announcement came in an emotional visitors' locker room, minutes after the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 to complete a sweep in the National League Championship Series.

Visibly moved after wearing the Dodgers' uniform for the last time, the 13-season Major League Baseball veteran confirmed that the final game of the series marked the end of his playing career.

"No, I think that's it, guys," Rojas told reporters after the game. "That's it as a player. This was my last game played. This was the last time I put on these cleats and this uniform as a player. From now on, I'm going to start thinking about what's going to happen in my life as a baseball person."

The historic feat in game 7 of the World Series

Rojas retires having left an indelible mark on the franchise's recent history. In the ninth inning of Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, with the Dodgers trailing the Toronto Blue Jays, the Venezuelan hit a solo home run to tie the game and force extra innings.

The hit propelled Los Angeles to victory and sealed the organization's second consecutive title.

A two-time World Series champion, the infielder played 1,401 games throughout his career, posting a .260 batting average with 61 home runs and 386 RBIs, consistently standing out for his leadership in the locker room and his defensive prowess at shortstop, second base and third base.

Loyalty to Los Angeles and plans for the future

After beginning his career with the Dodgers and spending eight seasons with the Miami Marlins before returning to California in 2023, Rojas expressed his gratitude for the impact the franchise had on his professional and personal development.

"I promise the guys loyalty forever because they helped me grow. Not just as a player, but as a person, as a leader, as a future coach, or whatever my role may be in the future as a baseball man, and I'm very happy to have been able to wear this uniform until the very last day of my career," he said.

Despite the bitter disappointment of falling short of a third consecutive championship, Rojas emphasized the pride he felt in having been part of the team. The two-time champion confirmed that he will seek to continue his involvement with the sport in a management or coaching role, expressing his desire to begin that transition within the very structure of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
