Kyle Kirkwood makes history and wins Washington's first Freedom 250
The Andretti Global driver triumphed on the street circuit around the National Mall, finishing just over three seconds ahead of Christian Lundgaard.

American Kyle Kirkwood won the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., on Sunday—the first IndyCar race held on a circuit around the National Mall and some of the U.S. capital's most iconic landmarks.
Kirkwood, a native of Florida, drove his No. 27 Andretti Global Honda to victory with a lead of 3.0906 seconds over the No. 7 Chevrolet driven by Christian Lundgaard of Arrow McLaren, according to a report by Just the News.
Kirkwood dominates in Washington
The final margin was smaller than the dominance Kirkwood displayed for much of the race. The driver built a lead of more than 15 seconds, but a yellow flag in the final laps bunched the field back together and forced a restart.
The race took place on a temporary 1.7-mile street circuit with seven turns, covering a total of 147 laps and 250 miles. Andretti Global also put in a standout performance by placing three of its drivers in the top four.
