Kevin Durant and Nike agree to lifetime partnership
The sports brand will sponsor the Phoenix Suns forward for the rest of his life, just as it did with Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Nike has done it again. The sports firm will be Kevin Durant's sponsor for life, beyond the end of his professional career. A contract like the one the American brand agreed with two of the NBA legends: Michael Jordan and LeBron James. A great move by Nike, knowing that he is one of the most mediatic players in the NBA.
The relationship between Nike and Durant began in 2007, when KD entered the world's best basketball league with the defunct Seattle Supersonics. Since then, Durant has worn the brand during his adventures with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and now the Phoenix Suns.
"When I first signed with Nike, I couldn't have dreamed how far we would go with this collaboration. We have done an incredible job creatively and philanthropically. We have traveled the world together and built a business that will now last forever. I'm excited for the future and honored to be in unusual company with this deal," said Durant.
For his part, Nike's executive vice president of Global Sports Marketing, Josh SlusherThe Suns player praised the Suns player: "As one of the best basketball players in the world, Kevin Durant has been an important part of the Nike family for the past 16 years. We look forward to continuing to serve the next generation of athletes together."
As announced by Boardroom, a sports media outlet created by the basketball player himself, this agreement includes "footwear, apparel and a community and philanthropic collaboration focused on grassroots basketball". What was not disclosed were the economic figures of the contract.
