Scheffler defends his title at the WM Phoenix Open and reclaims number one ranking in the world
The American defeated Canadian Nick Taylor and Spaniard Jon Rahm on the last day to win a prize of 3.6 million dollars.
Scottie Scheffler won the WM Phoenix Open and regained first position in the ranking that he lost in October. With a cumulative score of -19, the American managed to defend the title he won in the 2022 outing.
Despite the wind whipping the Scottsdale (Arizona) course, Scheffler stayed on target with four birdies and an eagle (65 strokes, 6 under par) in the final round. Canadian Nick Taylor (-17) was second with the same score as Scheffler, and Spaniard Jon Rahm (-14), who was one of the favorites to win the tournament, was third with 68 strokes.
After his victory, Scheffler was proud of the game he played during the WM Phoenix Open:
The WM Phoenix Open was handing out a purse of $20 million, as opposed to the $8.5 million it offered in 2022. With his victory, Scheffler pocketed 3.6 million, to Taylor's 2.18 million and Rahm's 1.38 million.
