Former NFL player Ryan Mallet drowned Tuesday in Florida. According to local media and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Mallet died on a beach in Destin. The preliminary investigation indicates that Mallet likely got trapped on a sandbar while swimming in the ocean. He wasn't able to return to land and drowned.

Ryan Mallet was a quarterback and is best known for his time with the New England Patriots. The team's head coach issued a statement expressing his condolences. "I am extremely saddened by Ryan's tragic passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched," states the message signed by Bill Belichick.

According to the authorities, Mallet was transported to a hospital after being pulled out of the water by lifeguards, but there was nothing they could do to save him. Mallet was from Arkansas and was 35 years old at the time of his death.
