New rail accident: train derails in Wisconsin and its cars fall into the Mississippi River

A train derailed onThursday in the state of Wisconsin near the Iowa border, dumping freight cars into the Mississippi River. The train is operated by BNSF and was carrying lithium batteries and paint. Local media reports that at least four people were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital.

The accident occurred in Ferryville, south of the Lansing Bridge. The images show how two containers from the train fell into the river.

Local authorities said fire crews were in the process of recovering the containers and creating barriers in the river to prevent the spread of oil, gas or paint that might be contained in them.

The accident adds to the succession of freight train derailments that have occurred throughout the country in recent months. In February, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, causing a toxic spill, the consequences of which are still unpredictable. Since then, there have been numerous derailments and spills in the country, some of them controversial due to the media and governmental silence in the face of the seriousness of the events.
