The president Donald Trump appeared uncertain when assessing the midterm elections and declined to guarantee that the Republican Party would retain its majority on Capitol Hill, in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said that maintaining the majority would be "equally" difficult in each chamber, while acknowledging that being in power puts one "at a tremendous disadvantage."

"When you have a sitting president... no matter how good he may seem to be, he's at a huge disadvantage—a tremendous disadvantage," Trump noted.

"But right now I'm on the campaign trail and holding rallies. The level of enthusiasm for the Republican Party is very high," he added.

Losing the majority in either chamber would complicate Trump's work and undermine his ability to advance his agenda during his remaining two years in the White House.
