President Donald Trump asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign. The information was confirmed by Katie Zacharia during her first press conference as White House press secretary.

"We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. ... She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well," the spokesperson said.

The decision comes after The Wall Street Journal reported that, shortly before being confirmed to the post, Guilfoyle asked a wealthy donor to President Donald Trump to transfer money to her to pay off a $100,000 debt.

Trump had already expressed his dissatisfaction with the ambassador to reporters on Monday.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which cites screenshots, Guilfoyle had been exchanging messages for months with Eric Deters, a lawyer and former congressional candidate from Kentucky, who in turn was trying to get the Trump administration to intervene to resolve his tax issues.
