Scandal: Hunter Biden received transfers worth $260,000 from China and Joe Biden's address was listed in the transaction data
“Bank records don’t lie, but President Joe Biden does,” said James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee.
President Joe Biden is at the center of controversy after his Delaware home was listed as the address of two transactions from China for his son, Hunter Biden, according to a bombshell revelation from the House Oversight Committee.
According to the committee, chaired by Republican James Comer (R-KY), Hunter Biden received two transfers worth a total of $260,000 linked to the Chinese firm BHR Partners during the summer of 2019, just weeks after Joe Biden announced his candidacy for the presidency.
BHR Partners, where Hunter Biden served as a board member, is a joint venture capital firm between Rosemont Seneca, Hunter himself, and Chinese investment firm Bohai Capital. The firm is controlled by the Bank of China Limited.
The committee's disclosure notes that the first transfer was made on July 26, 2019, for a value of $10,000 in the name of Wang Xin.
According to Fox News, there is a Wang Xin on the BHR Partners website, but it is unclear if the transfer came from the same person.
However, the second and most prominent transfer, dated August 2, 2019, was made by BHR Partners CEO Li Xiang Sheng, better known as Jonathan Li, for a value of $250,000.
The name of Tan Ling also appeared on the commission, although it is not clear what role this person played in the business between Hunter Biden and BHR Partners.
The beneficiary of the transactions is listed as Robert Hunter Biden with the address "1209 Barley Mill Rd." in Wilmington, Delaware. The latter is Joe Biden's residence.
According to the commission, between 2017 and 2019, both Jonathan Li and Joe Biden himself developed a personal relationship by participating in meetings, phone calls and even letters of recommendation.
“During his time as Vice President and prior to later payments to Hunter Biden, evidence shows Joe Biden developed a familiar relationship with Jonathan Li. Devon Archer, a Biden business associate, described how Joe Biden met with Jonathan Li for coffee in Beijing, China, had a phone call with him, and wrote college recommendation letters for his children,” the oversight committee said.
The committee itself, which has been investigating the Biden family's foreign business dealings for months, recalled that in October 2019 George Mesires, who was Hunter Biden's lawyer, stated that Hunter Biden served with BHR "only as a member of its board of directors," but it was supposedly an “unpaid position.”
Likewise, days later, during the presidential debate against Donald Trump, Joe Biden himself declared that his son had not received money from China.
Joe Biden lied: James Comer
The Republican chairman of the Oversight Committee said in a statement that the transfers from Beijing, obtained through subpoenas of bank records, show that Joe Biden lied to Americans.
“Bank records don’t lie, but President Joe Biden does,” Comer declared. “In 2020, Joe Biden told Americans that his family never received money from China. We’ve already proved that to be a lie earlier this year, and now we know that two wires originating from Beijing listed Joe Biden’s Wilmington home as the beneficiary address when he was running for President of the United States. When Joe Biden was vice president, he spoke on the phone and had coffee with Jonathan Li in Beijing and later wrote a college letter of recommendation for his children.”
The chairman of the oversight committee also accused Biden of committing abuse of power and endangering US national security.
"Joe Biden’s abuse of public office for his family’s financial gain threatens our national security. What did the Bidens do with this money from Beijing? Americans demand and deserve accountability from President Biden and the first family’s corruption. The Oversight Committee, along with the Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, will continue to follow the evidence and money to provide transparency and accountability,” he stated.
